Royal Holiday at Rio Othon is strategically located nearby to all major Rio attractions. This luxurious resort faces Copacabana Beach, the most famous beach in Rio. When you're not on the beach, swim a few laps in the hotel's heated pool. Work out in the fitness center and indulge in either a massage or some relaxing time in the sauna. At night, you can admire a breathtaking view of Rio while enjoying Brazilian music in the hotel bar.

Nice location right on the Beach
Date:June 22, 2012
Best things about resortThe best thing about the resort is the location most things happen right on the other side of the hotel you will meet nice people that will help you get a chair and sit you on the beach get your drinks very nice location.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyI like all the restaurants nearby they all serve the same food and some speak good english.
ReviewThe bad thing about the hotel was the fact I saw a huge water bug in my Bath tub I called the hotel they sprayed the room I saw another small roach the next day but maybe that ment the spray was working. They had no Iron in the room that was one thing I didn't like and the beds took some getting use to they are small and not all that comfortable for a taller person. The AC in the room was COLD so I stayed cool the balcony is very small I was on the 21st floor and was scared to look down no space on the balcony. The pool area looks nice I didn't go in but I walked around it. I think this is a nice hotel for a family or a couple but if you are single and going to have a good time get a APT...

Top Place for a Top City

Best things about resortThe location is excellent and although a litte 'corporate' everything about this hotel is good. Brazilian people are very friendly and the staff in this hotel no exception. Quite a few spoke English which is a big plus for us.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyJust all the usual things you expect to do in RIo. This was our third week's location in Brazil, all through RCI, and we were disappointed in the food. Not as exciting as we had thought but palatable enough. On our last night we had a very good meal at an Italian Restaurant to the north or along to the left as you leave the hotel premises - think it was called Don Quixote.
ReviewThis is an ideal choice location-wise to visit Rio because you certainly feel very safe and there is lots to do just around and about. Everyone without exception was helpful and friendly, especially considering we have no Portuguese . We visited Lapa by taxi which is supposed to be a dangerous place but it was fine, lots of police present and a vibrant, exciting atmosphere with almost exclusively young people enjoying themselves. We also cycled around the Lagoon and visited the Botanical Gardens. All good. Weather was a bit up and down but there you go, we are used to that!!

Best things about resortrestauarants beaches and great things to see, particuarly the statue of christ and sugarloaf mountain. The breakfast buffet was very good value.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyVery good quality and inexpensive restaurants all within walking distance of hotel.
ReviewBeaware there was a lady in the hotel( claiming to represent RCI and royal holiday guests only) selling various city tours at double the price of other tour operators which I found totaly unacceptable.Apart from that it was a great week and I would thourgly recommend it too anyone.I didnt find it too dangerous if you are sensible and keep to the tourist areas then no more dangerous than other places.

Not As Bad As Some Other Website Reviews
Date:November 9, 2009
Best things about resortThe beach of course, right across the street. The Sugar Loaf and Christ Redeemer tourist sites are just about R$ 15 away via taxi.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbySugar Loaf cable car was awesome, my wife who is afraid of heights had no issue at all and loved the views. The Christ Redeemer statue is a must see. Take the Cog Train from Corcovado Train Station.
ReviewRio de Janeiro is a beautiful city and an ugly city. Be careful out at night, we just stayed very close by as with most large cities the worst in people come out after dark.
Learn some basic Portuguese for dining, shopping and travel exchanges with the locals, they will appreciate it and will be very helpful.
The rooms are basic motel quaility rooms. The bed was firm, so if you like a soft bed it can be uncomfortable for the first couple of nights. We were put on the 22nd floor. Rooms xx01 to xx11 face North, rooms xx12 to xx17 face the ocean directly and rooms xx18 to xx26 face south.
The views from the Hotel are outstanding. The 30th floor has an exercise room, pool and a bar/resturant "Skylab". The dinner was great we had the Beef Fillet in pepper sauce with broiled potatoes. The 3rd floor has the breakfast room. We had to pay US $8 each whereas all of the non-RCI/Royal Holiday guests got it free (included in room rate). The basement floor has a large fitness room and a place to get free beach towels and a foot shower to wash away the sand.
The beach umbrella's "guardo do sol" are provided free. Once you get to the beach, look for the guy wearing a Othis Hotel T-shirt. However the chairs will cost a few R$. The beach boys will serve you well but it can get very expensive running a tab. After the first day we just fetched our own drinks. The worst part of the beach experience are the vendors, they are such pests. Don't even say "I don't speak Portuguese" ( Eu nao falla Portuguese) they will still try their best to get R$ out of you.
Nightly in the median of the divided 6 lane road, vendors set up blue tents. Excellent and cheaper T-shirts, paintings, and other tourist goodies can be bougth.
On Sunday's and Holidays they close the 3 lanes closest to the beach, this makes it nicer for walking, jogging or biking. Be very careful on the weekdays from about 7 to 10 AM, they turn all 6 lanes going North. I almost saw a guy walk into the traffic looking the wrong direction.
Overall we really enjoyed our trip and with knowing some basic Portuguese it saved the day on a couple of occasions. Its a plus to know how to say "No thankyou" (Nao obrigado, gals say Nao obrigada) to those pesky vendors on the beach.

Great location
Date:October 29, 2008
Best things about resortCopacabana beach is right across the street. Very friendly staff. Breakfast buffet was excellent for only $7.50
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyThe beach is the main attraction. You must visit the statue of Christ, its quite an adventure just getting there. Also a trip on the cable cars to Sugar loaf mtn. is fun
ReviewAlthough the people are very friendly very few speak English even in restaurants. The best way is to go to places that have buffet style and food is sold by the kilogram. Prices are very reasonable and the choices are superb. If you take a cab be sure to negotiate the price before you go. The constant beach vendors are a nuicense so just avoid eye contact and they go away. There is great competition by the chair people who set you up with umbrella and small table. Their beer and sodas are however twice as expensive as the small beach stands. Don't wear expensive jewery or flash your money. There are no casinos in Rio contrary to what RCI quotes in there resort directory.

Good Location but the room needs work and new beds
Date:July 2, 2008
Best things about resortLocation, friendly staff, delicious buffet breakfast (costs 15R) and the view from the room is beautiful. For souvenirs there are fairs accross the street just about every night. They offer reasonably priced paintings that you can roll up to take home. I wish I had brought home more as my friends went crazy for them. The hotel shop also had some good quality souvenirs.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyCopacabana beach. The locals in this neighborhood (behind the beach area) are very friendly. Spend some time getting to know them. It is best to visit restaurants away from the beach strip-ask a local. Also, check out Lonely Planet guide for restaraunts.
ReviewOur room was small with two twin beds. The bed was a bit uncomfortable for me (5'1") and I expect a large individual will not be able to tolerate it. The tub needed a good scrubbing with bleach to get out the mold stains. The carpeting was moldy and thus our room smelled dirty. I did not bother to ask staff to do anything because they would have had to tear up the rug to get rid of the smell. We kept the slider open when we were in the room and this helped clear up the odor. I did notify RCI and I expect they will remedy this. I would not stay here again unless they replaced the carpet with tile. Otherwise, the place was pleasant-I think we got accustomed to the moldy smell because we didn't notice it as much the last few days.
We loved the breakfast buffet, especially the cafe com leite (scalded milk is offered with the delicious strong coffee). Copacabana is very touristy but the vendors are nice even when you say "no thank you".
Also, if you forget to buy something there's always Duty Free shops at the airport that offer very nice items-a bit more expensive but higher quality.
