Best things about resortLarge Pool, Secluded areas all over. Large grounds. Close to Play Del Carmen
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyPlaya Del Carmen is easily accessable. Nice Pool and Beach area.
ReviewThis is a great resort for a romantic getaway. Somewhat secluded for bringing young kids, but teenagers that can handle the tours and excursions to Playa or Cozumel would be ok. I won't spend time repeating what others have said, which I agree to all the positive reviews. Nice, clean, spacious. Restaurants on site are wonderful but a bit expensive. Although this is not an all inclusive resort, they put a deposit on your credit card and all, I mean All, services are charged to your room.
Getting to Playa Del Carmen was very easy and quick. The resort has a shuttle that leaves every hour or two, but comes back at 6 pm. However, there is a 'city' bus or even collectivos that can be used which drop you off at the gate. No need to take expensive taxis. The bus was 32 pesos for two people to come back from Playa and Collectivos were 70 pesos per couple. (the resort shuttle is 80 pesos per couple). We spent a lot of our afternoons and evenings in Playa and spent mornings at the resort. Great jumping off point for exploring. We took the collectivo to Tolum for a total trip price of about 300 pesos ($28) per person.
Great resort, helpful staff, very clean and romantic. Definately a recommendation.

Great Resort

Best things about resortThe 2BR suite is absolutely awesome. The swimming pool is great to spend a lazy day by, although as big as it is, there is not a section that is deeper than 3 or 4 feet! The resort grounds are well kept.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyThe restaurants are costly, but the food was excellent all over. Gong, asian fusion dining, is extraordinary, but be prepared to spend some dollars here. The Mayan archaeological sites of Tulum and Chichen Itza are a must. Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue is a great place to find bargains, to watch people, and to dine. The ferry ride to Cozumel is also a great way to spend a day.
ReviewWe spent a week at the resort. The staff was always pleasant, friendly, and polite. When we were looking for a zipline adventure/tour, the resort concierge recommended Selvatica. Selvatica, at $75 per person, was well worth it. It is only a few minutes drive north of the resort. There were 12 ziplines, a 45-min dip in a cenote, and a meal at the end. Great recommendation from the concierge!
There is a dive shop at the resort, but it was about $20 to $25 more for a 2 tank dive trip compared to a number of dive shops in Playa del Carmen. If you don't have a car, diving with the resort dive shop is a deal. But if you're gonna be in Playa anyway, it might be a better deal for multiple-day dives from any of the dive shops in Playa.
I certainly would return to the Mayan Palace. However, I have to wait a while since there is a 1 visit every 4 years rule for RCI members. That is rather unfortunate. I wish the Mayan Palace would abolish that rule! Otherwise, it was a great week to remember for a very long time.
