Best things about resortThe Holua Resort is conveniently located just south of Kailua-Kona in Keauhou on the big island of Hawaii. Even though it is just off the main drag of Alii Drive, the resort feels remote and secluded since it is at the end of the road and is surrounded by lava flows and the rolling fairways of the Kona Country Club. One of the best beaches is within walking distance and Hawaii’s Most Awesome Attraction is right next door - but more on that later.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyThe Keauhou Shopping Village is walking distance (uphill) and offers an 8-screen theater, numerous restaurants, a grocery store, a drug store and plenty of unique shops. Many boat tours operate out of Keauhou Bay, just a block away from the resort, offering plentiful choices for snorkeling or dive trips, sunset (booze) cruises and Hawaii’s Most Awesome Attraction. Six miles away in Kailua, Lulu’s is a fun restaurant overlooking the ocean with a great happy hour and the King Kamehameha Hotel Luau is the best value for the money. An hour south in Ocean View, we had an amazing breakfast of Hawaiian sweetbread French toast at the Desert Rose Café on our drive to see the volcanoes.
ReviewThe resort grounds are lovely and the units are decorated in festive island colors. There are no vehicles allowed near the units, but the staff is always ready to provide a lift. Daily towels, midweek housekeeping, welcome baskets and a friendly staff make you feel truly welcome. Don’t miss the mid-week mini-luau with free mai-tais, wonderful pupus and a trio of singers joined by a group of young hula dancers-in-training. It is worth attending a Shell Vacations Club sales presentation since it earns you a “Diamond Card” which gets your entire party huge discounts on many island activities. Sign up for your tour in town and you might even get a free luau in the bargain. We saved over $600 on three attractions. The “Big Island” is called that for a reason, and if you want to get the most out of your stay, you will need a car. Now, Hawaii’s Most Awesome Attraction: snorkeling or diving with the manta rays. Several years ago, right next door at the Sheraton, they focused several spotlights on the ocean waves crashing on the lava flow at night and discovered the lights attracted plankton and subsequently several huge manta rays who feed on that plankton. We took a snorkel trip right out of Keauhou bay and, after a 5-minute boat ride, we were at the dive site. These beautiful, mammoth creatures swim right at you with their cavernous mouths wide open as they collect plankton. Most have a wingspan of 10 to 15 feet and to watch their water ballet is truly magnificent. Check out the footage on YouTube. Even first time snorkelers can handle this adventure and you are sure to remember it for a lifetime!

Best things about resortBest this about this resort is the location in Keauhou - close to bay, ocean. Resort is fully stocked with all the necessities you'll need.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyBest attraction near resort is the Fairwind catamaran. Great boat ride to Kealekekua, take the morning trip to take full advantage of a great day. Movie theatre, Rockys Pizza (try the white pie), KTA for groceries, donut shop, Longs Drugs are all in the Keauhou Shopping Center just up the road and very convenient. Kahalu'u Beach is a great spot to snorkel. Magic Sands Beach is small but fun too and a great sun spot! When going into Kona town, try Kona Inn Restaurant, always good food.
ReviewParking is not near your unit, be prepared to walk a ways to condo - - not always easy with suitcases and groceries. Pools are near some of the buildings, nothing special but clean. Would definitely stay here again. You'll need a rental car to fully enjoy the Big Island.

Best things about resortBeautiful trees and gardens everywhere, no car traffic close to the unit as parking is separate. Huge brightly decorated unit. Quiet, peaceful. Sunsets from the cliff nearby were awesome.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbySnorkeling at Honaunau or Kahaluu. Lulu's restaurant in Kona
ReviewWe booked here as an exchange with friends, so two couples shared a 2-bedroom unit. Bedrooms were downstairs, each with a private bathroom and slider out to the garden/pool area. Upstairs was the living and dining area with a huge vaulted circular ceiling, along with another small bathroom and a good size kitchen and a lanai overlooking the pool area and out toward the ocean, also with beautiful flowering trees and mongoose (mongeese?) to watch. Even the short walk from the common parking area was beautiful, and assistance was available if needed. We have made multiple exchanges over the years, and this was probably the one we were most pleased with.

Best things about resortUnits, amenities, staff, grounds, location.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyShopping centre nearby with KTA market, Longs drug store, cinemas and restaurants. Other attractions not too far by car.
ReviewWe stayed for a week. The 2BR unit was spacious, well appointed, in great condition and the resort provided a crib for our little one free of charge. Air conditioning was magnificent. All amenities in excellent working order. 8 pools in the grounds to choose from. 2 of them within a 1 minute walk from our room. BBQ grills scattered around the grounds for all to use. Friendly and helpful staff. We could not have asked for more. If you are planning to go to Kona, this is the place to stay. Not too far from the airport and we found it great for 4 adults and a 18 month old. We had a car for the week and would certainly recommend anyone staying here to organise similar. It is a lovely spot, but not too much within walking distance. Very happy with our stay.
