Good home base for exploring Kauai Date: August 29, 2010
Best things about resortBeautiful surroundings, friendly service, very clean and generous with the towels
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyMountain, valley and ocean views, boat tour of Na Pali coast, Hanalei Bay, good restaurants all around including in Hanalei (the Dolphin), Hanalei farmer's market on Tuesday

ReviewWe tend to leave the resort every day to do outside activities. We didn't attend any resort activities or use the pool. We went scuba diving with Fathom Five, took the boat tour of Na Pali with Captain Sundown, and enjoyed the views and hiking in Waimea Canyon. We were really impressed with the beauty of Kauai. As for the unit, we had no complaints except for the hounding to attend timeshare presentations. Of course, this is Kauai so roosters will wake you up early - use good earplugs. The floors were squeaky clean and the towels were plentiful. There are numerous gorgeous views and nice beaches in the vicinity.

worst place we have ever stayed Date: August 18, 2010
Best things about resortThere really is nothing I can say to recommend this resort.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyNothing nearby. Had to drive to everything.

ReviewThis is the worst place we have ever stayed. Not only is there absolutely no view anywhere from the resort, but it is the loudest and rudest place we have ever stayed in. We were awakened every morning at 5AM by the family next door evidently getting ready for work. They left their alarm clock blaring for 2 hours, kids squealing, doors slamming, horns blowing, etc. Then the tennis instructor arrived at 7AM and began screaming on the court. There was supposed to be a "quiet time" between 8PM and 8AM. We had NO quiet time our whole stay. When we complained we were ignored and treated very poorly by the staff afterward, I guess because we complained. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Then they decided to try to "upsale" us. What a joke.

Its OK, not perfect, but clean and nic Date: August 14, 2010
Best things about resortClean,, and the tradewinds were the best A/C you could have. LARGE two bedroom.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyHanelai is beautiful as is Princeville.

ReviewBe aware that Princeville is 28 miles and 40 minutes NORTH of the airport. DO NOT COME TO KAWAII without renting a car.
The only downside is the hardsell on buying at the resort. They were gracious but it is a pain in the butt.
If you buy, buy a resale for 1/4 the price.

Don't let the photos fool you! Date: July 15, 2010
Best things about resortThe best thing about this resort is its location on the north shore.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyHanalei Beach, Hideaways Beach, and Ha'ena Beaches are the best! Our restaurant choices are Hanalei Gourmet for lunch and Duke's (at the Marriott in Lihue) and the Beach House (Poipu) for dinner.

ReviewI can't tell you how disappointed I was in our unit that looked NOTHING like the photos depicted either on the RCI or Wyndham websites. We had scrimped and saved for a couple years to do this vacation and I was looking forward to staying in the units shown... wow, what a disappointment the reality was. It was like walking into something from the mid-eighties with wall paper borders on white walls. The first thing you saw when entering our unit (324) was a built in speaker that had almost all the fabric ripped out of it- very tacky! Then the blah kitchen, which was SO not like the photos of granite counter tops and drop lights. The real kicker was yet to come...

The master bedroom and bathroom are NOT connected!

This was a little awkward since we were staying with another couple! I just was about in tears by this time. Upon entering the master bathroom, I noticed that the tub had serious rot on both sides of it where it hit the wall. The concierge called right about this time and made the mistake of asking how I liked the unit and I told her not at all and was getting ready to call the manager, when she said she'd work on getting us into another unit. Needless to say it never happened, and when my husband finally told her we weren't going to attend their sales pitch we never heard from her again. The rest of the week showed us that there were bloodstains (fresh) on the second bedroom curtains, loads of bugs, and one of the two pools were closed, along with the second BBQ area so that there were lines each evening for the three of four BBQs that worked each night.
I realize that somewhere in that resort there exists a unit that looks like the photos, but not ours or anyone that I spoke with at the pool. It seems deceptive to display descriptions of one thing and be given another, and I don't think I will be choosing a Wyndham exchange again in the near future.
