Best things about resortIt is right ON the beach. You walk out the door and there you are. The pic posted was taken from the third floor on our balcony. Also, each unit faces the water and has a nice, large balcony.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyThe turtle rescue is awesome and right next door is a bird sanctuary complete with alligators. We also went on a wonderful dolphin tour with Fins2Feathers. They only take small groups (6 people) and they have a great dog, Diesel, who loves the dolphins and barks when he sees some. It is pricier than others but was well worth it. Gabriella'a has the most wonderful lasagna - different than any other I have ever eaten. Lots of Mexican and seafood places to eat. If you like shrimp you won't be disappointed. And even DQ has tacos!
ReviewAs far as the island itself, it was wonderful. The people are so friendly. You can drive across the very long causeway back to Port Isabel where they is a super Walmart so easy to stock your kitchen. A lot of things were closed like the mini golf/go cart place and no snorkeling that we found. Also, no fireworks cruises. This is due to when we were there but it was also nice as it was practically deserted. The dunes were fun to see, too. Lots of restaurants and lots of touristy gift shops.
As far as the resort, it was so-so. You will see the complaints about the elevators on here. That is no joke. They have 2 and one was shut down the entire time we were there. The other one apparently quit at one point and some people were stuck in it for awhile. I complained about it but nothing was done. I was told the manager was "contacting the board" about it. Seriously? Fix the stupid thing! Our unit was okay. We had 310. The pool is right outside the door from there but that means I heard the pool pump going night and day in my room. It was a bit irritating. Our living room didn't have any lighting so we had to actually ask for a lamp! It is NOT like what was shown in some of the pics .The sofa was a sectional which was hard and made of some vinyl material. The beds are HIGH. I have never seen beds this high. I had to climb up and I am 5'7". They actually have stools you can use but not enough of them for everyone. The other room had twin beds. There is not sufficient lighting to read by which is a big deal for me. They have these touch lights which were basically like night lights. I also asked for a lamp for in there and never got it. READ the booklet they give you. They want you to strip the beds when you leave and you are supposed to leave the towels and dirty sheets in the hallway along with other rules. They do have pool towels you can request but it would be nice if they simply left some in the unit. Then there were the palmetto bugs. If you have never seen these look them up. They are enormous and they shared our unit with us. I also complained about them and was told Orkin was coming out the next day. Not sure I believe that. I also told them there was one in my bathroom and was told someone would spray in there. It didn't happen as far as I could see. I finally bought some bug spray and sprayed everywhere. I also left the light on in the bathroom as they don't like light.
The pool is very tiny. I can't imagine how it would be in the summer when there are more people there. You can't really swim out in the Gulf as the waves were pretty large so the pool was nice. The hot tub there wasn't very hot but apparently the adults only one on the other side was very hot. I didn't check it out as I like having a pool to go in, too. There was a washer and dryer two doors down from us which was nice.
The beach area in front of the building is basically only used by residents of the building. At this time of the year it was fairly deserted. There were always people there but lots of room between parties. There is a number you can call to have someone come and rent you chaise lounges and umbrellas, too.
RCI has two other properties you can stay at there. I wouldn't choose the one because it doesn't have a beach but the other has 3 pools and looks nice. I would go back to this place if I didn't have a choice but the bugs and elevator problems along with the lack of trying to get the elevators fixed for so long doesn't make me feel as if this place really cares about upkeep.
The parking was good for us. There are two floors of it under the building but I wouldn't want to be there in the summer as I bet it is harder to find a spot and they weren't made for bigger vehicles to easily get into. Also, this place is dog-friendly. There were SO many dogs around there. One restaurant there even has a dog menu. They were all well behaved and on leashes.
Best things about resortLocation of being right on the beach. units are nice but do need updating as far as appliances are concerned. Bed was comfortable and bathroom had been updated and the size of unit is very nice.
Best attractions or restaurants nearbyWe loved the Grill "Blackbeard's" Staff is very friendly and food is wonderful. Also the Brewery is another great place to eat.
ReviewWe had a great time overall. The weather was great and we enjoyed the relaxed living while there. The big balcony on every unit makes for great mornings with coffee and great evening watching the sun go down.
